DAR to distribute P35.8-M farm equipment to ARBOs

DAR-Negros Oriental will distribute  eight sets of  farm facilities to identified agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations, or ARBOs, in Negros Oriental when the required  documents are ready.


 

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II, Louie Naranjo, said the farm facilities composed of nine  four-wheel drive tractor, trailing harrow, disc plow, and trailer, cost P35,892,000.

House to probe sugar tax

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday that he is seeking a House inquiry into tax impositions on raw sugar by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.


 

Senate President Franklin Drilon also told the DAILY STAR he is seeking a review of the legal basis of the applicability of the 12 percent Value Added Tax on raw sugar.

BIR presses hard

The conflict between the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the sugar producers – millers and planters – is getting serious as the BIR presses hard on the producers on the value added tax on sugar. The problem that arose from the advance withholding tax has deteriorated so that the BIR, through the Department of Finance, has a new definition of what raw sugar means.


 

Sugar output seen to fall short of target

MANILA,  Philippines–Domestic production of raw sugar is expected to fall short of the 2.5 million-ton goal for the current crop year that ends in July, prompting regulators to scrap export allocations for countries other than the United States.


 

According to Regina Martin, administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), raw sugar output for 2014-2015 is expected to be about 35,000 tons less than the target.

Roxas Holdings acquires 26.7% stake in ethanol firm

MANILA, Philippines - A subsidiary of sugar group Roxas Holdings Inc. (RHI) has acquired a significant stake in the country’s second largest ethanol company for P420 million.


In a disclosure to the local bourse, RHI said Roxas Pacific Bioenergy Corp. had purchased on 26.7 percent stake in San Carlos Bioenergy Inc. (SCBI) from the Zabaleta Group.

Roxas Pacific Bioenergy Corp., a subsidiary of Roxas Holdings Inc., has acquired a 26.7-percent stake in San Carlos Bioenergy Inc. for  P420.525 million.


Roxas Holdings disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange it signed Wednesday an agreement with Bronzeoak Philippines Inc. to acquire  the latter’s 26.70 percent shareholdings in SCBI.

San Carlos is a bioethanol company located in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

SRA scraps allocation for sugar exports, hikes domestic allotment

The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has scrapped the sugar allocation for world market exports and would instead allocate all the supply to the domestic market since the output forecast did not meet the target.


In an order, SRA has allowed the reallocation of “D sugar” or world market sugar to “B sugar” or domestic market sugar, which covers sugar production of week ending March 15, 2015 and subsequent week endings of crop year 2014-2015.

Sugar leaders show unified stand

Sugarcane industry leaders and stakeholders showed a unified stand in furthering the improvement and growth of the sugarcane industry, particularly in Negros Occidental, Administrator Ma. Regina Martin of the Sugar Regulatory Administration said in a press release yesterday.


 

Martin made the statement during the recent visit to the province of Undersecretary Michael Scuse of the United States Department of Agriculture.
