House approves Sugarcane Bill

THE House of Representatives approved on third and final reading on Monday the Sugarcane Bill authored by Negros Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez.


 

Benitez, author of House Bill No. 52 or the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2014, made the confirmation through a text message on Monday.

He said that with the approval of the lower house of the Sugarcane Bill, they now await the approval of the Senate version so that it could become a law.

Escudero assures passage of sugarcane bill in 2014

SENATOR Francis Escudero has assured industry stakeholders of the passage of the Sugarcane Bill in the Senate within the year.


 

Escudero made the assurance as the Senate committee on agriculture continues to conduct hearings on the proposed measure.

The senator said in a radio interview that the passage of the bill would help the sugar industry become competitive so that it will survive when the Asean Free Trade Agreement (Afta) will be implemented in January next year.

SRA issues order on sugar production allocation

THE Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has issued Sugar Order No. 1 pertaining to sugar production allocation policy for milling year 2014-2015.

SRA Administrator Ma. Regina Bautista Martin said the sugar order, approved during the meeting of the SRA Board yesterday, is allocating five percent for “A” sugar or US quota, 90 percent for “B” or domestic market, and five percent for “D” or world market.
