The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) should investigate the spike in the wholesale prices of sugar, according to an industry group.

The National Federation of Sugarcane Planters (NFSP) expressed concern over the sharp rise in wholesale prices of raw and refined sugar in Metro Manila.

Apparent bid to smuggle sweetener foiled

SOME 10,000 bags of sweetener have been seized on suspicion that the cargo was misdeclared, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) said.

 

The shipment was declared by importers as “white sweet powder” and is believed to contain 88% sugar and 12% glucose, SRA Administrator Pablo Luis S. Azcona said at a briefing late Tuesday.

SRA earmarks funds for soil equipment

The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has allotted P17 million for two soil equipment that will increase sugarcane productivity. 

 

SRA Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said the agency would procure two more units of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) laboratory equipment that could fasttrack the analysis of soil samples.

SIPALAY CITY, Negros Occidental — The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has announced that it has filled its export allocation of 66,000 metric tons (MT) of raw sugar, aiming to complete this before April to fulfill its US sugar quota and stabilize farmgate prices during the peak harvest season.

Bacolod City—The government will start implementing in March a sugar order (SO) that calls for the imposition of import clearance fees on alternative sweeteners, according to the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).

SRA Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said a draft SO consisting of amended guidelines would take effect next month.
