Waste Impoundment Efficiency at Sugar Mill

St. Pe, K.M.  1977.  Division of Water Pollution Control personnel, when analyzing sugar mill waste impoundments, have found instances of waters exhibiting a low BOD5 and yet having an absence or only small amounts of dissolved oxygen. This situation occurring in impoundments in which direct sunlight penetration is restricted by heavy vegetative growths merits clarification since, the presence of a low BOD5 has sometimes been mistakenly used to denote a high dissolved oxygen content.
