The Theory of Feedwater Heating and Aeration

Ocampo, B.S. 1967.  Heating water before feeding to the boiler removes a substantial amount of oxygen, non-condensible gases and temporary hardness to the feedwater. On the other hand, a need for deaeration of feedwater occurred when the boiler metal surfaces were left clean without the mounting protection of scale and completely unprotected from oxygen attack since the pressures and ratings are increasing.
