Taurus Energy has after a long negotiation process signed a material transfer agreement with a leading research and technology center for sugar cane and ethanol producers in Brazil, reports Sugaronline.
Work will be performed in both parties' respective laboratories to find the best way to ferment the cellulose-based sugar solution technology center produced from bagasse using XyloFerm®.
The evaluation is initially scheduled to last until the end of the year 2015 after which possible next steps are to be discussed based on the results obtained. The Center represents a very large part of the Brazilian sugar cane and ethanol producers and the collaboration is expected to provide good exposure of Taurus Energy and the product XyloFerm® in the highly interesting Brazilian market.
Previously announced evaluations by other companies are ongoing but in several cases being renegotiated due to Taurus Energy reaching an agreement with Lallemand Biofuels and Distilled Spirits and the conditions for supply of yeast has changed. Taurus and Lallemand's Joint Steering Committee will meet in Montreal at the end of September to further develop the companies' common commercialization plan.
Worth noting in the current business is that the United States Patent and Trademark Office on August 25 approved and published Patent No. 9,115,376, "Saccharomyces cerevisiaestrains". The patent application was submitted in 2011 and relates to a method for developing xylose fermenting yeast strains used in Taurus Energy's development.
