Sugarcane Chemical Storehouse
Dr. Hockett, R.C. 1950. Taking an entirely fresh look at the sugar cane, thinking of it not merely as a source of sugar but as a bundle of chemical compounds, which are mainly organic. Progress has been made in putting these by-products to work. Among the major ones are wax, sterols, fats, aconitic acid, cellulose, pentosans and lignin. Details of this analytical work are discussed at length. Sugarcane – Chemical Storehouse. Sugar News 26:679-683.
