Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State on Monday said two Chinese companies are ready to invest in the state in the area of sugar and other agricultural products, according to Nigeria’s Daily Trust.
Badaru who disclosed this to newsmen when the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Gu-Xianojie paid a courtesy call on him in his office, said Jigawa is ready to partner the Chinese in the overall development of the state.
"I believe that the Chinese are our development partners in Jigawa. A Chinese company, CGC, has been working in Jigawa for over 10 years. CGC handles most of our road construction and irrigation facilities in Hadejia. A Chinese company, the Lee Group, has also established a footwear factory in Jigawa and it is also diversifying into sugar production, molasses and seasoning very soon.
"We are also working on a proposal with CGC to develop 9,000 hectares of land for integrated agriculture. I am confident that your visit will benefit both Jigawa and China in a mutual way. We are looking forward to further partner in the area of research, manpower training and entrepreneurship."
He said part of China has certain similarities with Jigawa in terms of climatic conditions, adding that it will help in the area of research in agric products that have benefited from Chinese technology.
Earlier in his remark, the Chinese Ambassador,Xianojie said he is impressed with the relationship between Jigawa and China, adding that his visit will strengthen the ties because they are interested in partnering Jigawa to exploit its abundant potentials in the area of agriculture.
