CAIRO- The country has strategic vegetable oil reserves sufficient for 4.7 months, and its sugar reserves are sufficient until the end of October, the cabinet said in a statement.

Egypt is expecting a rise in its sugar production this year after expanding the area planted with beet by more than 119,000 feddans (123,503 acres) to reach 560,000 feddans (581,191 acres), it quoted Supply Minister Ali Moselhy as saying.

The planted area is expected to produce 1.7 million tonnes of sugar which will help to reduce the gap between production and consumption, he added.

Moselhy said earlier this month that Egypt will reach self-sufficiency in sugar production by the end of 2021.
