HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 17 (acn) With favorable indicators of industrial and agricultural efficiency, Villa Clara became the first territory of the country to reach 100 thousand tons of sugar produced in the current harvest, Granma newspaper reported.

According to Andrés Durán Fundora, director of Azcuba in the province, to date they have produced 33,000 tons more than in the same period last year.

The better industrial performance results in an increase in sugar production with fewer cane while regarding agricultural efficiency they reached 46 tons per hectare, which although is not optimal is bigger than the 42.86 in 2014, he added.

Villa Clara province, some 250 kilometers from Havana, has 8 sugar mills, out of which stand out the Panchito Gómez Toro, said Durán, who added that the good performance is due to good weather and organization both in the cutting and transportation processes.
