San Jose De Buenavista, Antique — Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao extended a helping hand to more than 300 Antiqueno migrant workers in haciendas in Negros Occidental.

Cadiao visited the haciendas in Silay and Talisay cities to provide free medical checkups and food packs to Antiqueno migrants. A spiritual upliftment and advocacy campaign on anti-trafficking and about their rights were also conducted.

Provincial Social Welfare Officer Lazaro Petinglay said that an Antiqueno lawyer now based in Negros Occidental who volunteered to help the migrants briefed the governor on the 23 cases of violence referred to him.

The governor made the trip to Negros to fulfill a promise to Antiqueno sugar workers to come back after a year to check on their living conditions.

Petinglay said Cadiao paid courtesy calls and coordination meetings with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia before visiting to the haciendas.

She also met with the mayors of Silay and Talisay cities and discussed the welfare of sugar migrants.
