P12.6-M smuggled sugar seized off Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A cargo vessel loaded with smuggled sugar was seized here on Thursday night.


Members of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao led by Lt. Renyleo Ballesteros intercepted M/L Nurhuda off Barangay Recodo. 

Orlando Sangit of the Customs police said the boat was loaded with about 7,000 sacks of smuggled sugar with an estimated value of P12.6 million. 

Sangit said the boat was owned and operated by a certain Nurhuda Mahadali and had 13 crewmembers.

The vessel reportedly came from Sandakan in Sabah.

The seized cargo was turned over to the Bureau of Customs.
